Nintendo’s breakout hit of 2015 Splatoon has been crowned game of the year at Toyko Game Show in Japan. Splatoon beat out games such as The Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid V to take the game of the year award.
Splatoon was first released in May of 2015 exclusively for the Wii U and has sold almost 5 million copies since its release. Splatoon was developed internally by a younger group of Nintendo employee’s hoping to make the shooter genre more accessible to a younger generation. It went on to become critically acclaimed and has won numerous awards, now including TGS Game of the Year.
